Abstract

This engineering project focuses on the Design and fabrication of groundnut shelling machine. Groundnut shelling machine was designed and fabricated at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Technology, Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin aimed at increasing shelling/decorticating efficiency and eliminating drudgery associated with the traditional method of -shelling groundnut and other developed methods such as pedal-operated methods. The machine is powered by a 1.5 horsepower motor at a speed of 1440 revolution per minute. Performance investigation carried out show a good performance of the machine with decorticating efficiency, undecorticating efficiency, machine damage efficiency, cleaning efficiency and output capacity of 92%, 7.5°k, 3%, 85% and 120kg/hour respectively. It is recommended that a motorized oscillating decorticator for commercial production for human and even animal consumption be fabricated using stainless steel material for critical parts.

Abstract Construction and fabrication of charcoal oven. This project is designed to serve the timid low income and the poor in the society due to its economy of fuel. The fuel for this oven is easily gotten from nature, which means the very high expensive fuel like gas, electricity and biomass is not used as fuel for the operation of this oven. The oven has the capacity to bake fifteen (15) loaves of bread if it is used for baking purposes. While for fish smoking, it can contain about fifty (50) fish as quantity if it is used for fish processing. The temperature of the oven is moderate, about 1500c maximum and the wall are designed with materials that can deflect heat back to the processed food product. This project looks at The maintenance of centrifugal flow bench in fluid mechanics laboratory. The centrifugal flow bench machine was broken down and was abandoned for over 7 years. The group took up the project to refurbish and maintain it in order to restore the machine to maximum working condition. Adequate corrective maintenance procedures which include fault detection, fault isolation, fault elimination and verification of fault elimination were properly, carefully and strictly followed in the cause of study of this project. At the end of the work/the project, the centrifugal flow bench was restored to a functional state and started working effectively again to its initial function and use in the fluid machine lubrication. .
Abstract
This engineering project focuses on the Design and construction of a pneumatic water pumping machine. Water is a universal solvent and by implication is widely known as the most treasured natural resource since the beginning of the world. Consequently, the medium through which water can be transported and supplied to diverse locations for varied purposes has posed a problem in our society today. A lot of solutions have been suggested and put in place to remedy this problem. Water pumping machines, both mechanically, electrically and manually operated types have been designed and manufactured by different manufacturers to serve in several aspects of life such as for domestic purposes, in hospitals, educational institutions, oil and gas sector and so on. The primary aim of this project is to design and manufacture or construct a pneumatically operated water pumping system in which the pumping action is initiated through the air introduce to the impeller from the air compressor. Nigeria depends heavily on the importation of goods and machines. A shift from this trend requires the development of locally available technology. Available technology was utilized in the design and fabrication of the external gear pump. The design considered relevant theories and principles which affect the performance of a pump. The parts of the pump were produced locally from available materials. The discharge dropped with the increase in pressure head.
Abstract
This engineering project looks at Fabrication of a pepper grinding machine. The process of crushing and grinding domestic product into powdered form was approached and achieved in this project work taking into account some necessary modifications due to the limitation found in the previous design machine. With the continuous improvement and advancement in the present days, technology has brought the invention and making of diverse types and shapes of machines. These machines require different kinds of energy for their operation and to produce useful work and it does not waste time. Most of them are operated manually or electrically. Basically, the pepper grinding machine is a useful device for achieving the grinding of agricultural products like pepper foodstuff and all types of grinding operations. In this grinding mill, the urge shaft is adequately supported with bearing to reduce the supporting materials. The posterior is also fabricated in such a way that there is room for adequate lubrication. These adequate supports have given to the urge shaft help to reduce the frictional forces and thereby ensuring the long lifespan of the machine. The materials used for the fabrication of this project are readily available and can withstand the mechanically applied force or stresses.
