Abstract
The ever increasing cost of acquiring inorganic fertilizer has increased the demand for organic fertilizer by farmers. With this growing trend of demand, there is need to evaluate the performance of some of these organic manure such as cow dung. Cow dung is readily available in most parts of Nigeria and its cost of application is very affordable, however its effectiveness has been believed to be affected by fermentation time. It is in light of this that this study seeks to investigate of effect of fermentation time on the pH and TDS (total dissolved solid) of cow dung fertilizers. The method used for the study was a manure fermentation process conducted in laboratory. The result of the study revealed that fermentation time affects the sample solution of 1:2 ratio proportions since it has more increased pH level as well as the TDS. The result also indicated that the ratio solution with higher pH and TDS level next to 1:2 is that of 1:4 and least is 1:8. It was therefore concluded that the level of pH left for the soil from cow dung fertilizer is highly affected by fermentation time.
