Abstract

This research work assesses the effect of delayed payments of lecturer’s salaries and wages on students’ performance in Imo State University. The study reveals that delayed payment of salaries has negative effects on the productivity of employees.  Diversion of funds, corruption and change in the accounting system combine to cause delays in the payment of the salaries.  The study recommends that: Lecturer’s salaries and wages should be paid as often and early as possible. Special recurrent expenditure account be put in place for the purpose of salaries and wages of lecturers and appropriate budget made for the purpose.  A well qualified and responsible personnel be organized to take charge of the disbursement of funds
