Abstract
Impact of information communication technology in the dissemination of information in academic libraries. The study investigated and examined the impact of information communication technology in the dissemination of information in special libraries with a particular reference to Musa Abdullahi Library, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic. Information Technology (IT) is the term used to describe the items of equipment (hardware) and computer programs (software) that allow us to access, retrieve, store, organize, manipulate and present information by electronic means. Communication Technology (CT) is the term used to describe telecommunications equipment through which information can be sought and accessed. Information and Communication Technology is a term that covers all forms of computer and communications equipment and software used to create, store, transmit, interpret, and manipulate information in its various formats. The primary objective of this project is to assess the role of ICT in the dissemination of information. To achieve this, several pieces of literature were reviewed on the various aspects of Information and Communication Technology. The researchers collected their data through the use of questionnaires, interviews and secondary sources. Table’s histograms and simple percentage were used to analyze the data. It was found that information and Communication Technology plays a significant role in maintaining Information Control and also the development of knowledge. However, the effective use of ICT in the Institution understudy has through research been found not adequately and effectively utilized. Some of the recommendations to the case study Musa Abdullahi Library are that ICT facilities should be adequately funded and measures should be taken to rectify the problems of acquiring information specifically from the net.
