Abstract

Information needs and information seeking behaviour of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri – case study of department of dispensing opticianry. The purpose of this study is to ascertain the information needs and information seeking behavior of dispensing opticianry students of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri. The survey research design was used while an instrument title information needs of dispensing opticianry students in Federal Polytechnic Nekede was used for data collection. The populations of the study were one hundred and five (105) dispensing opticianry. The instrument for data collection were questionnaires and personal interviews. Six (6) research questions were answered. The data was analyzed using distribution frequency and percentage. The finding among others reveals that information resources of the Federal Polytechnic Library do not meet the information need of the dispensing opticianry students. Based on these findings, the following recommendations were made. There should be a provision of current resources, provision of optician’s textbooks and adequate funding of the library. The study concludes that if these recommendations are implemented, it will help the students to do well in their academic pursuits.
