Abstract
This project is focused on Leadership and rural development in Ohaukwu local government area. The regime of Sunday Inyima. A total of four hundred (400) copies of structured questionnaires were utilized in the study using the sampling method. However, three hundred and eighty-five (385) respondents completed theirs and returned same. One-on-one interview was also conducted as first hand information was got from Hon. Sunday Elechi Inyima (2007-2012). The above sources were used to test the two hypotheses in the study. The findings indicated that the first hypothesis stated that there was a significant rural development during the two year tenure of Hon. Sunday Elechi Inyima as Executive chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area accepted the alternative hypothesis (H1) with a chi-square value (593.93) is greater than the critical (table) value, (9.488) as the leadership understudy played significant roles in rural development in the council area. Also, the second hypothesis stated that there was no significant rural development during the two-term tenure of Hon. Sunday Elechi Inyima as the executive chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area. In hypothesis two finding, there were factors that hindered rural development in Ohaukwu Local Government Area during Hon. Sunday Elechi Inyima two-term tenures as the council chairman. Since the computed chi-square value (447.32) is greater than the critical (table) chi-square value (9.488) and accepted the alternate hypothesis (H1). In consonance with the above findings, recommendations were made.
