Abstract
This project is on Leadership problems and their effect on community development in Nigeria – a study of Bida local government, Niger state. This project aims to x-ray the leadership problems and their effects on community development from time immemorial has been the backbone of socio-economic growth in many communities and towns in Nigeria. The researcher used primary and secondary sources for data collection. The study found out that factors hindering community development are numerous among which are rural-urban migration lack of political will by the leaders (either elected or selected) mutual hatred and suspicious among various communities. Therefore, the leader has to acquire certain basic characteristics for real community development to take place such characteristics include the acquisition of good education and knowledge, application of good knowledge appropriately (without fear or favour) blending of motivational strategic and managerial skills to align forces without creating a culture that encourages self-centeredness, the leader must possess leadership skills and be interested in the general well-being of the community, in other words, he must be self-less not greedy nor corrupt.
