Abstract
This project focuses on Selection and acquisition of library materials in special libraries. This research work takes a critical look at the selection and acquisition of library materials in special libraries. The project work makes use of a case study method and used the interview and personal observation as its main instrument for data collections. The researcher administered six (6) questionnaires in each of the ministries under study. However. One (1) questionnaire was returned from the ministry of agriculture while three (3) questionnaires were returned from the ministry of education, amounting to four (4) questionnaires. All the calculations are based on the same unit (100%) for each of the ministries. In spite of the observation made in this research work, a number of issues remain outstanding. The issues include inadequate funds, high cost of library materials, delay in the ordering of library materials are considered to be a hindrance to the procurement of library materials in each library under study. It was recommended that each library under the study should procure all the library materials listed thesis/dissertation textbooks, conference materials etc especially most current and recent ones for researches and the needs of the parent organization..
