Abstract

Statistical analysis on students perception of scholarship program given by oil companies in host communities of Delta state. This study however examined student academic performance as affected in oil producing areas in Delta State as  case study with the use of structured questionnaires the necessary data were generated and analyzed using percentage and chi-square analysis. The result of the study indicated that the age distribution of the respondents indicated that 58.02% of respondents are female, while the remaining percent are male students. This means that most of the students that participate in this study are female. From table 4.2 and figure 4.2, the result indicates that 58.02% of the respondent’s communities produce oil while the remaining percent of 41.97% do not. This implies that most of the student communities who participated in this study produce oil and which means the information obtained from this study is adequate and will be of great importance. And 83.95% of respondents are in need of scholarships while the remaining percent are not. This implies that most of the students involved in this study are not sponsored by oil companies or involved in any form of scholarship. It was also shown that 86.41% of respondents agree that scholarship makes positive impacts on academic performance while 13.58% disagree with the motion.
