The research work is about the statistical analysis of the consumption of cigarettes and alcoholic drinks in tertiary institutions (a case study of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri ). The data for the research work was collected by the researcher through the use of questionnaires which the result was represented in a bar chart and pie chart. The chi-square hypothesis was used for the estimation of the students’ average weekly expenditure on drinking and smoking. It was observed that the average weekly expenditure on alcohol is significantly different and higher than that of smoking. It was therefore recommended that  the management should institute a ban on the sales of alcohol and cigarette in and nearby institutions, we should encourage other intending researchers who might be interested in this topic to investigate deeply into alcoholism and smoking habit in other higher institutions as a case study
