Abstract

This study examines the impact of internal Displacement due to insurgency on women and children in Nigeria with particular reference to Borno State, Nigeria. The major objective of this project is to examine the factors that led to the emergence of the Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria, to determine the implications of Boko Haram Insurgency on Integration in Northern Nigeria, to examine the impact of internal displacement on women and children in Nigeria and to determine the challenge of internal displacement and forced migration of women and children in Borno State. The methodology adopted in gathering data was descriptive method, both the primary and secondary methods. The major instrument used to gather data from primary source is the questionnaire. From a population of 93,200 sample size of 399 respondents was selected using simple random technique. Findings revealed that Insurgency can lead to the internal displacement of women and children in Nigeria, especially in the Northern part, internal displacement can lead to emotional and psychological trauma for both women and children, and it can result in human trafficking, sexual assault, loss of suitable health care for women and children, lack of access to food, water, shelters, healthcare and other basic need and discrimination and rejection,  In view of the findings, it was recommended that There should be a holistic intervention mechanism in managing the displacement crisis in Nigeria irrespective of their resettlement destinations. There is a need to foster cordial relationships between the host communities and the IDPs in a way that they recognize their relationship can be mutually beneficial. The government and partner agencies need to organize programs that will benefit the IDPs and the host communities and Introduction of vocational and skill acquisition programs
