The impact of local government administration on grassroot development (case study of Funtua local government)
Abstract
The objectives of this project are focused on understanding community responses to service and development activities, examining the local government’s mobilization of resources for grassroots development, and assessing the role of effective communication in enhancing belonging and security in local communities in Nigeria. The researcher justifies the contribution of the local government toward grassroots development based on the research findings. The study highlights the significance of grassroots development in promoting overall development, particularly in rural areas. The local government’s programs play a crucial role in achieving grassroots development, as acknowledged by the majority of respondents in the research. The findings emphasize the importance of local government contributions in this regard. The study identifies several problems related to local government and grassroots development. In response, the researcher offers recommendations to address these issues. These include introducing a common standard of morality, ensuring adherence to rules and procedures, and implementing a code of ethics that is widely understood and followed by all government officials. The researcher suggests strengthening the Code of Conduct Bureau to monitor the assets of public officers regularly. Additionally, allocating more funds to the local government is proposed to support essential development projects. Moreover, the training of agricultural extension workers is recommended to educate farmers on improved farming techniques. In summary, this research project investigates community responses, resource mobilization, and the role of communication in grassroots development. The findings justify the contribution of the local government in promoting grassroots development, while also identifying problems and providing recommendations for improvement. These recommendations include fostering moral standards, adhering to rules and procedures, enhancing the monitoring of public officials” assets, increasing funding for local government, and improving agricultural extension services
