Abstract
The influence of journalism code of ethics on journalism practice – a survey of journalist in Uyo. This study was to investigate the influence of the journalism code of ethics on journalism practice, a survey of journalists in Uyo. For the study to have focus, objectives were set and research questions formulated and to examine the ways that the journalists’ code of ethics has influenced professionals among journalists in Uyo. The study adopted a survey research method. The theoretical framework used in the study was social responsibility theory. The census method was used as the sampling technique with 42 according to staff nominal roll. The entire sample was used since it was a manageable size. Data was gathered through the use of a structured questionnaire. At the end, the study found out that every practicing in Uyo has a high level of knowledge of the journalists’ code of ethics, but some used the same as standard for measuring their actions in the line of duties while others do not, despite their knowledge. The study concluded that the code of ethics emerged as a response to the crisis of confidence in journalism, hence recommending that the journalists and other media professional bodies should ensure that there is real unionism in the profession by ensuring that journalists’ rights are not trampled upon.
