1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY INTRODUCTION

ICT information and communication technology. Is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application

Encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and software, systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as video conferencing and distance caroming.

Communication can be described as the process of transmitting and receiving ideas, information and massages. In keeping with their complex nature and multiple applications, Information and communication technologies ICT may be viewed in different ways. The world Bank defines ICT as set of activities which facilitate by electronic means the processing, transmission and display of information.

Rodriquez and Wilson, 2004 ICT refers to technologies, people use to share distributes gather information and to communicate through computer net works. ESCAP 2000.ICT can be described as a complex varied set of goods, application and services used for producing distributing processing, transforming information, including telecom, TV and radio broadcasting, hardware and software, computer services and electronic media.

Information and communication technologies ICT have permeated all aspects of life in such a way that nothing can be done efficiently, especially in the field of communication without the extensive use of ICT.

Today, ICT have made in roads into radio and television broadcast, news production, public relations and advertising.

Information and communication technologies are all about the digitalization of communication and information dissemination strategies. It involves the use of telecommunication of computer communication.

ICT involved a whole lot of communication gadgets with high technological contents like computers, telecom devices like fax, satellite, and mobile phone, internet facilities, etc lke 2005;106 describe ICT as a combination of technologies that have been modernized to an hence the process of communication and information dissemination. Basically information and mediated, that has to do with the application of modern technologies in the functioning of communication devices.

According to Jillian 2003 an capsulate the all engaging nature of ICT, the advent and development of technology has resulted in the convergence of traditional media into a new communication medium the print, audio and visual elements of the journals medias the internet becomes a bridge for the advertising industry to cross over from the conventional forms of magazine and newspaper ads, radio and television commercials, to internet advertising such as USB banners and pot of adverts.

However, at the cost of this study advertising wile be viewed in all areas covered by the ICT. That as the modem system of advertising, copywriting and print production, ICT and the production of television and radio commercials, the growth of cyber advertising for online advertising and types of online advertising.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLM

ITC is a global issue mostly in developing countries third world countries is still passing through difficult challenges. The usually affect the smooth flow of Information from one place of the another, thereby creating multiple problems in Communication for economic development.

In line with the global economics standard, ICT are very relevant, musty to our society where, despite the advent of western education. In the area of the ICT me still have a lot of illiterate citizens.

In Nigeria however only large business enterprises, and government resident offices makes use of the ICT materials to advertise their products and services.

This study seeks to ascertain the nature and extend to which ICT holds in the advertising industry, it benefits and challenges of ICT in the advertising business. This research also attempt to find out both external and internal forces affecting the growth of ICT in Nigeria.

This project looks at The effect of ICT on the Nigerian economic growth and development. Information and communications technology or (ICT) is extensional term for information technology (IT) that stresses the role of unified communications(made) and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems, which enable users to access, store, transmit and manipulate information. The usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has now been accepted as one of the main driving forces behind organizational competitiveness in the present day business environment. Presently, ICT is having dramatic influence on almost all areas of human activities and one of these areas is the banking sector. The statistical mean scores was used to analyze the Livert’s five point questionnaire while the frequency 10 unit and simple percentage was used to analyze the respondent’s characteristics. The criteria for calculating the mean is“Mean (x)–?fx”, the chi-square test was employed by the researcher to test the significance of the responses from the credit officers of GTB Plc. Since the p-value (0.19) is less than the level of significance (0.05). We reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative which says that ICT has contributed to Nigerian economic growth and development.
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1Background of the Study Broadcasting has been at the forefront of many technological changes, mostly in digitalization and enhancement of existing technology. For example, digital technology now permits listeners to obtain traffic information and news per se, while listening to a cassette, compact disc or radio station etc. Church Akpan 2006. We are all living in a changing world, and over the past many ears we have been conditioned to accept changes in the way we think and relate. Thus, communication between the peoples of the world which sounded utopist before is now becoming a reality in or very eyes giving practical meaning to Marshall Mollohans view of the world ad a global village interlinked by communication technologies, Mc Lucan, 1964. P47 Information and Communication Technologies ICT are electronic machines and devices. Their application have both computing and communication capabilities. They range from physical devices like digital cameras, tape recorders, computers, sensing devices, scanners, mobile phone, etc to cyber spacethe internet, software, teleconferencing, satellite etc. Their application is broad and cuts across all interpersonal and mass communication media, giving more power, robustness and veracity to their operations and performance. More thane ninety years after the worlds first broadcasting station were pounded, radio is still the most persuasive, accessible, affordable and flexible mass medium available in cities, urban towns and rural areas. It is often the only mass medium available to majority of the people. The application of information and communication technologies into broadcasting especially radio broadcasting is therefore designed to boost and enhance qualities of broadcast programmes. Most importantly has been the digitization of radio signal, innovation programming and live reporting from any corner of the world. It is also believed that the business of radio broadcasting has been elevated with information and communication technologies application. This informs why this project is undertaken with a view of finding out what information and communication technologies have on broadcasting, taking the Atlantic FM, Uyo, as a reference point. 1.2 Statement of Problem Most researches on radio reporting have their focus on coverage of particular events of general interest and critique of programmes. This is so because it permits a close scrutiny of the output of radio stations. Today, with the addition of the profit making bias to the business of radio broadcasting, news and other programmes are seen as products which have to be packaged well. Atlantic FM, Uyo, is a newly established radio station in Akwaibom State. However, it is certain that it applies information and communication technologies in broadcasting functions. Thus, this research seeks to find out the Impact of Information and Communication Technology ICTs on Radio News Reporting. 1.3 Objective of the Study The objectives of this study are:
  1. To find out if Information and Communication Technologies are used by Atlantic FM, Uyo in it broadcast reporting.
2. To find the extent ICT is been applied in broadcast reporting in Atlantic FM, Uyo. 3. To find out impact of formation and Communication Technologies on the output of broadcast reporting in Atlantic FM Radio, Uyo. 4. To make recommendations on the use of ICT on news report. 1.4 Research Questions The following research questions were formulated;
  1. What is the extent of the application of Information and Communication Technologies in broadcast reporting of Atlantic FM, Uyo
2. Does Atlantic FM, Uyo, make use of these modern Information and Communication Technologies in broadcast reporting 1.5 Research Hypothesis The following research hypothesis will be relevant to this study H1:Atlantic FM, Uyo, makes use of ICT in radio new broadcasting. H0:Atlantic FM, Uyo, does not make use of modern ICT in radio new reporting. H2:ICT application will improve the output of radio news reporting in Atlantic FM Uyo. H0:ICT application will not improve the output of broadcast reporting in Atlantic FM, Uyo. 1.6 Scope of Study This study is restricted to only the radio services. The Atlantic FM, Uyo. The findings and its results can only be used to determine the impact created in other radio stations where information and communication technologies are employed in broadcasting of programs.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the ICT proficiency level of computer science teachers in Government owned secondary schools in Agbani Education Zone of Enugu state. The research was guided by four research questions and three hypotheses. Survey research design was adopted. Population of 39 computer science teachers, which is the total number of computer science teachers found within the 46 government owned secondary schools were studied. Two instruments were used and these were: A 67item Teachers Self Assessment Form TSAF and an ICT practical skill Achievement Test IPSAT. Results were analyzed using percentages, mean, standard deviation, t and z Test for unrelated/ Independent samples. The results from the data analyzed revealed that; these computer science teachers possess skills only in Microsoft word, World wide web and Window explorers, in other words they possess only three ICT skills out of the seven ICT skills tested. The ICT proficiency level of these computer science teachers is low. These computer science teachers apply ICT to a low extent in teaching and learning in their classroom. The male computer science teachers possess more ICT skills than the female computer science teachers. The ICT skills these computer science teachers claim they possessed were far below what they actually possessed. Gender had nothing to do with the proficiency level of these computer science teachers. This is because there was no significant difference in the ICT proficiency of the male and female computer science teachers. The educational implications were pointed out and the following recommendations among others were made: State, Federal Government and Education policy makers should devise, as well as adopt a viable curriculum that will guarantee the production of highly skilled and professional computer science teachers. Computer science teachers already in the field, should have a compulsory monthly and annual ICT training and retraining workshop organized for them. CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION This research is on Strategies for improving computer studies in secondary schools in Oshimili and Aniocha local government area of delta state. Background of the Study One of the fundamental rights for every human being is education. Education prepares the individual for challenges in life. Consequently, Gujjar, Khan, Baig, Ramzan and Saifi (2010) opined that education does not only deliver information, but for developing complete personality of a child. In Nigeria there are three levels of education: primary, secondary and tertiary level. Secondary education is the level between primary and tertiary education. It equally prepares students to be productive members of the society (Jegede and Owolabi, 2003). In developed countries, secondary school is seen as the gateway to providing not only an educated citizenry but also a capable workforce. According to World Bank in Etim (2006), secondary education is now being recognized as the cornerstone of educational system in the 21st century. It therefore means that quality secondary education is indispensable in creating a bright future for individuals and nations alike. Inline with the above statements, Jacob and Tomoko (2001) stated that secondary education is crucial for economic growth. Jacob and Tomoko (2001) maintained that globalization, the increasing importance of ICT in the twenty-five century and rapid technological changes have made knowledge essential for competing in the world economy. Secondary education therefore provides countries with the skills and knowledge needed for economic growth, including furthering learning and training of professionals such as technicians scientists and entrepreneurs. Secondary education can also be decisive in fostering positive social and civic values and yields considerable private returns, offering young people the chance to acquire skills that were unlikely to be developed in the primary grades. This in turn enables youth to develop job-oriented skills, participate fully in society, take control of their own lives, and continue learning. Educational system is gradually becoming a system of technology especially in the present information driven economy. Owing to advances in science and technology which continues to revolutionize the global world, the Federal Ministry of Education introduced computer studies at all levels of education in Nigeria (Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004).Abstract
This project studies the Impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on the performance of nurses staff. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is arguably the most rapidly growing segment of the world ecosystem. The development in the sector pervades every human activity social, economic, cultural, religious, political, or health care. Some studies have shown the immense benefits of ICTs as a means of delivering quality health care services, and a way improving the performance of health workers but have left a gap in measuring the true impact of ICTs on Health workers performance, the potential of ICTs in improving Health workers performance have not been fully established. Based on these limited studies, a study of this nature was conducted to investigate the impact of ICT on the performance of nurse’s staffs. The study used quantitative research by use of survey design in which questionnaires were administered to the nurses staffs in PHCC Nassarawa Jahun Bauchi for the collection of data. Sample was drawn from the staff of primary healthcare center Nassarawa jahun Bauchi. A total of 44 staff represented the sample for the study. Descriptive method using SPSS v21 was used for data analysis to answer the research questions. The study revealed that PHCC staff had positive mean rating on the availability of ICT facilities that improve the performance of nurses, level of ICT accessibility that improve their performance, examine the use that improve their performance. The study concluded that ICT has impacted greatly and positively on the performance of nurses staffs. Findings from this research shows that ICT is very important and necessary for the delivering of quality medical services in the medical sector. It was recommended among others that hospitals’ regulatory agencies should collaborate with international agencies such as World Health Organization to aid in the successful implementation and funding for the procurement of sophisticated ICTs to facilitate the dissemination information to improve health workers performance.
