Abstract
This project looks at Training as an effective tool for the improvement of secretarial efficiency in private organizations in Ekiti state. The purpose of this study is to determine the needs of training of secretaries importance and essentiality and to find out whether training schemes have positive effects on the performance of secretaries and productivity. The data generated using a structured questionnaire administered to 40 secretaries in Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, and Crown Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, using the percentage method in analyzing the data gathered. Findings revealed that secretaries in the private sector were dominated by routine duties of typing documents and taken shorthand notes but lack rapid innovations and transformation, as recruitment of unqualified staff into an organization will affects organization’s efficiency and productivity. Based on findings this study recommended that secretaries should grow in technology innovation as extension of secretarial practices for improved productivity. There is need to evolved staff development programme in which secretaries may be sponsored to further their education by proceeding to higher institution of learning to obtain higher certificates, diplomas or degrees and regular refresher training should be organized for secretaries to keep them abreast new change in their profession and up-to-date information in the organization.
