Strategies for improving management union relations in an educational institution – study of the Federal Polytechnic Bida.
Abstract
The main thrust of this research work is to examine the strategies for improving management union relations in an educational institution, A study of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State. Data were collected through administered questionnaire and a lot of literature by various scholars was reviewed by the researcher. The hypothesis was tested using simple percentage method, this is due to its simplicity. The findings of this research indicate that to improve management union relations, collective bargaining should be encouraged and put into practice as an avenue for resolving conflicting issues, regular payment of salaries and improvement of welfare policies would improve the relationship between management and union. Furthermore, it was observed that the absence of good management union relations leads to conflicts, frequency of strike in the institution, blackout, etc. whereas, good management union relations will bring about high productivity, tech, and expertise of the staff.
