Abstract
This research work is focused on Impact of philanthropists and corporate bodies on the development of services of Imo State library board owerri. Focused on the role of philanthropists and corporate bodies in the maintenance and growth of Imo State library board services and to discover alternative sources of assisting public library apart from the government and its agencies. Questionnaires and interviews were used for data collection. The population of the study consisted of staff and users of Imo State library board Owerri. The study reveals that the library understudy is funded and maintained by philanthropists and corporate bodies through donations/gifts and alternative sources of funds to the library include government subvention and internationally generated revenue. Based on the findings, some recommendations are made, Among which are the public libraries should be better recognized by the ministry of information and culture not only under the ministry of education. Corporate bodies agencies, philanthropists, federal state and local government should join hands in the maintenance of public libraries because it is the legacy we shall leave behind for younger generations and those yet unborn as our cultural heritage. The library should not depend only on government subvention and philanthropic and but have other alternative sources of funding.
