Abstract
This project A critical examination of poverty alleviation programmes in Nigeria has its case study focused in Bida local government area of Niger state. Poverty is one of the most challenging issues facing Nigeria today. Majority of Nigerians fall within the poverty level. The problem of poverty has remained a great concern to the government. However, various governments have implemented poverty alleviation programmes, yet, the poverty level has continued unabated. This project evaluated the implementation of poverty alleviation programmes in Bida Local Government Area of Niger State. The researcher made use of the primary source to generate data. The research concluded that, despite poverty alleviation programmes being implemented, the poverty level is on the increase in Bida local government area. The research recommends that the government and private sectors should invest significantly in basic social services and development of infrastructure to help reduce to reasonable level the poverty level in the local council.
