Abstract
This research is on An assessment of the participation of female quantity surveyor in professional practice in Bida and Minna areas of Niger state. The quantity surveyor profession is a male-dominated profession globally, with poor women representation in every aspect of the quantity surveyor profession and involved jobs. In this context, this study examines the level of woman participation, challenges faced by female quantity surveyors that influence in the course of developing careers in quantity surveyor practice and the strategies that can be used to encourage women participation in quantity surveyor profession. This was done through self–administration of 70 questionnaires to some selected firms or organization in Bida and Minna, Niger State. The analyses show that the participation of female quantity surveyors in professional is very low because of many challenges ranging from female responsibilities to female preference for other jobs relative to quantity surveyor practice. Therefore, the study recommends that making young female aware of the opportunities in quantity surveyor practice is needed to encourage them to build their careers in quantity surveyor profession from the school stage in order to increase the number of professional women participating in future. In addition to this, education and training opportunity are necessary to ensure better representation of women so that the level of women participation in the quantity surveyor profession can be increased.
