Abstract

This study surveyed audience’s perception of the role of mass media in the fight against rape. The study made use of the survey research. The study constituted 290 respondents who are residents of Asaba Metropolis. The primary instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed and placed in tables using simple percentages. The findings of the study revealed that the media is up to date in its reports on society, that the media has given priority to rape reports and that reports of related issues have an influence on the audience. The study recommended that women should become active in the fight against violence (rape) against women, and government and non-governmental organizations should sponsor media campaigns in the bid to eradicate violence (rape) against women.  ..
