Abstract

This research study on the building information modeling and Quantity surveying practice in Nigeria is a holistic overview of the contributions of building information modeling to Quantity Surveying practice. BIM is defined as the process of creating of information database for a project in which lifecycle information is expressed in an interoperable manner to create, engineer, estimate illustrate and construct a construction project. The objective of the study is to determine if BIM increases the speed of project time delivery and whether BIM saves money significantly to add to the existing body of knowledge. The research questions include Does the BIM serve costs Does BIM create challenges to QS profession. The literature review treated the adoption of BIM by QS, the importance of BIM to QS practice and the challenges created by BIM to QS profession. The population of the study was the final year students/ graduates, the sample of the study was 150 respondents, the sampling techniques was stratified random sample Questionnaire was used as an instrument of data collection method of data analysis was table and percentage method from my findings I firmly conclude that BIM adds more value to the services provided by QS as it has the ability to reduce cost provide space assignment and helps in managing construction project time. In view of the findings, it is important to recommend that the curriculum for the tertiary institution should be reviewed and incorporated both the theoretical and practical aspect of teaching also suggest further study holistically evaluation of trait created by BIM to quantity surveying practice in Nigeria.
