Abstract
This research looks at Effect of government ownership and objectivity of the press, a study of Pointer Newspaper, Asaba. The study is designed to find out how objective the Pointer Newspaper discharges its duty in the light of government ownership and control. Descriptive survey research method was employed in the data presentation using simple percentage. The questionnaire is the instrument for data collection. From the research findings it is observed that government ownership and control of Pointer Newspaper affects news judgment and people do not believe on print media owned by the government. It was recommended that the media should be free from government control so that the media will be able to objectively inform, educate and entertain the audience adequately and on staff recruitment, merit should be allowed to play prominent role in order to recruit qualified personnel that can take the media station to a greater height and to another level.
