Abstract

This project focuses on Facebook and news reporting in Nigerian polytechnics. The perceived high level of usage of social media applications amongst students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria is inevitable. However, little is understood from an empirical viewpoint about the intensity of usage of Facebook messenger and its effect on student’s perception of News credibility in the tertiary institutions. This study seeks to empirically identify the effect of social media (Facebook messenger). On the perception of the tertiary students in Nigeria from the perspective of the students. In the view of the information gathered in this research work, the following are the suggested recommendation on how to correct the social media news information on students. i. The traditional media should give more information so as to bridge. ii. The traditional media should come closer to the students so they will not rely only on social media.
