Local government and grass roots development in Nigeria
Abstract
This research work examines Local Government and Grassroots Development in Nigeria. In the course of undertaking this research work, two hypotheses were formulated to guide the researcher in data collection and analysis in order to gather adequate information for the research work, both primary and secondary data were used, primary data were elicited through questionnaires drawn and interviews conducted on one hundred respondents drawn from both local government officials, communities representative, village heads and the populace who are the direct beneficiaries of the project and programmes carried out by the local government towards rural development. Results of the analysis show that a lot needs to be done by the local government in the areas of infrastructural development that has a direct bearing on the rural people. The study concludes that the local government has not lived up to expectations despite the various reforms introduced by the federal government in transforming the local government into the third tier of government despite constitutional provisions.
