Abstract
This research work is on the Role of orthopedic cast technician in the management of ankle injury in national orthopedic hospital, Dala, Kano. In the simplest terms possible, orthopedic medicine is devoted to diagnosing and treating the problem of the musculoskeletal system in human beings. There are various methods in the management of musculoskeletal problems. One such method is the use of casts. Management of a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions requires the use of a cast or splint. The musculoskeletal system is responsible for enabling human beings to move efficiently. The system consists of the body’s bone, muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments joints and other connective tissue injuries to the musculoskeletal system which often affects a person’s ability to move about in an efficient manner, resulting in a deterioration of their quality of life. Orthopedic medicine can treat a variety of injuries to the musculoskeletal system resulting from some of the following situations, Musculoskeletal Trauma, Sports Injuries, Degenerative Diseases, and Congenital Disorders. Selection of a specific cast or splint varies based on the area of the body being treated, and on the acuity and stability of the injury. Indication and accurate application techniques varies for each type of splint and cast commonly encountered in orthopedic settings.
