Abstract
This research work was designed to study the effects of bureaucratic practice on a profit-oriented public organization. Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has been devilled with some problems such as lack of political will and sincerity of purpose on the part of successive administrations. These factors led the organization into a state of“coma”. The main objective of this research work is to examine the effect of bureaucracy on a profit-oriented organization with particular reference to Power Holding Company (PHCN) of Nigeria. The method used in collecting data was mainly primary and secondary techniques. A total of two hundred and seventy (270) questionnaires were sent and distributed among different groups of respondents based on various sex and age group, different status or rank but only two hundred (200) of them were answered completely and returned. Based on the findings, it was discovered that the major problem of the company stands on bureaucratic practice factors and its practice affects the Power Holding Company negatively. It was recommended that the government establish and show strong political will and focus and also adopt new strategies and initiatives.
