Abstract

This study focuses on employee appraisal as a method for enhancing Organizational performance in banks in Biu Borno state. The researchers aimed at exploring the following objectives firstly, to examine the effect of straight ranking appraisal on the organizational performance of selected banks in Biu. secondly to determine the impact of grading appraisal on the organizational performance of selected banks in Biu and thirdly to examine the effect of management by objective appraisal on the organization performance of selected banks in Biu. To facilitate the investigation of the study, pertinent questions such as: To what extent does straight ranking appraisal organizational performances of selected banks in Biu How does grading appraisal influence organizational performances of selected banks in Biu What is the effect of MBO appraisal on organizational performances of selected banks in Biu Some theoretical assumptions were made which included: Straight ranking has no significant influence on organizational performances of selected banks in Biu. grading appraisal has no significant impact on the organizational performances of selected banks in Biu. management by objective appraisal appraisal has no significant relationship with the organizational performances of selected banks in Biu. Furthermore, utilizing a survey research approach, the study focuses on a sample frame comprising three major banks, namely Access Bank Plc, UBA Bank Plc, and Keystone Bank Plc. The survey will involve soliciting responses from 58 core staff members across these selected banks within Biu Local Government of Borno State. The research employed descriptive statistics to assess respondents” perception of the appraisal methods used, as well as regression analysis to examine the collective impact of these methods on organizational performance. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents perceived the appraisal methods positively, acknowledging their role in providing a clear understanding of individual employee performance, identifying and rewarding high-performing employees, and enhancing motivation and commitment.
