Abstract

This project is bases on The role of the press in the advocacy for violent free election in Port Harcourt, a study of selected television houses. This study is not extraordinary that it will not have any problem. And before there will be a need for research work, a problem must be involved.  Survey method was adopted and this made it possible for the researcher to select an appropriate sample size of 375 using appropriate tools like questionnaire and personal interview. The researcher was able to study a population of 6120 from the selected areas of Port Harcourt Metropolis. The researcher adopted a simple percentage and table with sample descriptive analysis to explain the tables. Research question where draft out to guide the researcher in his study, relevant related literatures are reviewed to show that similar research work has been carried out, and a theoretical framework has been carried out to support the study. With the descriptive data analyzed, the study reveals that children are highly influenced by television commercials and react to what they see.  The researcher recommended that the Government should be very serious in checking the type of advert that goes in for the targeted audience (children).
