Description

Effect of leave policy on employees’ performance among non-academic staff in IBB university Lapai.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of Leave Policy on Employee Performance among non-academic staff in Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai. Specifically, the study aims to investigate how different aspects of leave policies, such as types of leaves, leave duration, flexibility, and managerial support, influence various dimensions of employee performance, including productivity, job satisfaction, engagement, and overall organizational outcomes. The study targets a population of 835 non-academic staff at IBBUL. The sample size is determined to be 99 participants, based on statistical considerations and the desired level of precision. Stratified random sampling is chosen as the sampling technique to ensure representation from different departments and job roles within the population. The study utilized structured questionnaire to collect quantitative data on participants’ perceptions of leave policy, their leave utilization, and their self-reported performance levels. The findings of the study show that Annual leave is shown to significantly predict employee performance, mainly due to its positive impact on well-being and motivation. On the other hand, sick leave and care leave do not exert a significant direct influence on Employee’s performance. This observation is likely due to the nature of these leaves, typically necessitated by illness or family-related responsibilities. The study recommends that organizations promote a culture where employees feel comfortable taking leave. This can be done by communicating the importance of taking leave, modeling leave-taking behavior, and by providing support to employees who are struggling to balance work and family commitments, develop and implementing generous leave policies. This includes offering employees a sufficient number of paid leave days each year and making it easy for employees to request and take leave.
