Abstract

This research looks at The role of community radio stations in community development, a case study of Ihitte Uboma L.G.A. The role of community radio stations in community development (A case study of Ihitte Uboma L.G.A) Community Radio Stations which are established under the IBC broadcasting service like many other electronic media establishment in Nigeria have been carrying out their communication function of informing, educating, entertaining, persuading and enlightening the public especially in communities. Community Radio Stations have helped in economic development of communities because radio as a medium of broadcast media has easy reach and penetration to diverse and scattered listening audience not withstanding their literacy level. Through the establishment of radio station in community, information is brought to the doorsteps of community members. It also helps in educating the members of the community to foster unity and understanding. Radio stations as information tool keep the community dwellers informed about development project, programmes or issues that are ongoing or that need attention. This is done in this research using the social scientific method, only part of sample of the population is used and this survey was carried out through the use of Questionnaire in order for the researcher to collect quantitative and qualitative data for this work. Data presentation and result finding are analyzed using tables and percentages. Recommendations and conclusion were made from the findings.
