Abstract

The roles of public relations in crisis management – a study of Ukanafun local government area. This research was on The Roles of Public Relations in Crisis Management – a study of Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. This is because Ukanafun Local Government Area has experienced recurrent crises which sometimes have political undertones. The crisis has claimed lives and property worth millions of Naira and it seems public Relations Tools are not fully deployed to put an end to the crisis and if they are deployed, they are not properly utilized. This research used both primary and secondary sources of data collection. The population of the study was 200,000 and the sample size was 200. Findings showed that political tussles, intolerance, killings, kidnapping and unemployment are causes of the crisis in Ukanafun Local Government Area. The study recommends that these crises should be nipped at the bud through the professional use of public relations Tools such as public education and enlightenment, discussions, seminars, employment, provision of amenities among others check and stem the tide of crisis in the local government area...
