Abstract
This study aims to examine the challenges and prospects of collection development policies in Katsina State public libraries. The study will explore the existing collection development policies in the library and identify the challenges faced by the library in implementing these policies. It will also examine the prospects of the library’s collection development policies in meeting the information needs of its users. The study adopts a qualitative research design, using semi-structured interviews and document analysis to collect data from library staff and users. The collected data will be analyzed thematically, with a focus on identifying patterns and themes related to the challenges and prospects of collection development policies in the library. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on collection development policies in public libraries, particularly in Nigeria. It will also provide insights into the challenges faced by public libraries in developing and implementing collection development policies, as well as the prospects of such policies in meeting the information needs of library users. The study’s recommendations will inform policymakers and library administrators on ways to improve collection development policies in public libraries, particularly in Katsina State..
